John "Yonk" Warbel, 100, of Wolf Run, passed away Thursday evening March 27, 2025 at his son's home near Morgantown, West Virginia.
Born January 18, 1925 in Wolf Run, Ohio, he was a son of the late Ciprian and Irene Kaniuk Warbel and was preceded in death by siblings, Nellie Redovian, Mary Gregor, Annie Gregor, Dorothy Kochan, Nicholas Warbel, Lucas Warbel, Mike Warbel, Steve Warbel, and Samuel Warbel.
Yonk was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, June Anderson. He was the father of four children: Nick (who preceded him in death), Judy (George) Sponhaltz, John (Robyn) Warbel, and Mary Ann (John) Ferrigan. He leaves behind six grandchildren: Amy Sponhaltz, Adam Warbel, Kasi Williams, Ryan Warbel, Emma Ferrigan, and Colin Ferrigan, and five great-grandchildren: Michael Jepson, Megan Jepson, Hudson Williams, Hollis Williams, and Maddox Warbel.
Yonk, a proud naval veteran of World War II, honorably served his country in the Philippines, exemplifying courage and dedication. Following
